The master bedroom is an escape, a place to relax and unwind. To some, the Master Bedroom is their favorite room of the house because it conveys a stress-free environment when they enter. If your master does not quite have the ambiance you desire maybe it’s time to reconsider the components in the room to change the space.
First things first
First out clear the clutter. Remove the exercise equipment, remove the extra items on the dressers and nightstands, declutter. In Fung Shui, the philosophy of less is more and the placement of items can create a calming effect in the mind. Remove all those distractions that you have all day long. The easiest way to imagine this is, think how you feel when you first walk into a hotel room when on vacation. Relief, relaxation your bedroom should feel the same.
Key components
In any bedroom, the focus is on the bed. Start by finding the best possible mattress you can afford, and then add a frame that you LOVE. Maybe it is just a headboard, or maybe it is a complete four poster bed. Whatever style you like, go for it since the bed is the first thing you see when you enter the room. Next will be the bedding.
Bedding gives the room the luxurious feeling. The color, quality, style, amount of pillows and the throw all create the ambiance of the room. The bedding highlights the focal point of your room.
Lighting in a bedroom usually is ambiance lighting, set on tables emitting a soft relaxing feeling. Adding drapery to windows also affects the light in the room. These help with darkening the room and for some, to get a restful night.
The other furniture will depend on the needs of storage and the size of the room. Make sure that you have enough storage so that it keeps the clutter at bay.
Many clients will ask what the ideal color is to paint a bedroom. Of course, my gut is to always go with the color palette that you love. Most likely it will be featured in the bedding, rug or favorite art piece. There have been studies done on how color can affect sleep, so if you are more of the scientific type of person you might want to consider that.
So if shut-eye is important to consider your color choice but none the less, strive to make your master room one that is relaxing, and it will become one of your favorite rooms in your house.
